Middle third

Measure from the brow line to the base of the nose. Keep the ruler centered and use the same brow reference on both sides. A raised brow or a tilted head can make this section look longer than it is.

Lower third

Measure from the base of the nose to the lowest point of the chin. A relaxed mouth is easier to repeat than a smile, pout, or clenched jaw because expression can change the visible endpoint.
